In 2025, the Federal Government made a significant investment in early childhood literacy in the State of Mississippi. Part of that investment funded Skybrary subscriptions for [NUMBER] Mississippi K–[3 or other] classrooms across [NUMBER] schools — providing more than [NUMBER] students with year-long access to RIF's curated digital reading library. This is what a state-level commitment to literacy looks like when it reaches the classroom level.

Why Mississippi, why now?

Mississippi has been a national focal point for early literacy reform for over a decade. State policymakers, educators, and literacy advocates have made measurable progress - Mississippi's fourth grade reading scores on the National Assessment of Educational Progress have outperformed the national trend in recent assessments, going from 49th in the US, to being in the top 10 performing states in fourth grade reading. (Source: Mississippi First). The state's leaders have continued to invest in tools and resources that put high-quality literacy materials in front of young readers.

For early elementary classrooms,  kindergarten through third grade, that means access to engaging, expert-curated content that meets children where they are, regardless of family income.

Students can use it at home after school hours. My class has only been to the library 4 times this year & they have read every book in our classroom library. Walnut Public Library is still unoccupied & Chalybeate Public Library is only opened from 1-4:30 on Thursdays. I pushed a challenge for every student to get their library cards this year because of the limited sources in our area. This program has pleased parents because they can access it at home too & see what their child has read in the classroom. Thank you!

Teacher Mississippi

I've been checking in with my teachers and they are all very appreciative of it. I've been told it's a really big hit with the parents as well, having their children another reading option. The parents are always asking to send more books home (which is tough sometimes) and this has been a game changer in that regard. Teachers are using it as an enrichment tool as well.
